OUR NEXT MINDFUL HAWAII ZOOM COMMUNITY MEETING

THE VENERABLE KARMA LEKSHE TSOMO, will be our very special guest at our next community meeting. 

ABOUT KARMA LEKSHE TSOMO: “Karma is a Buddhist nun, scholar and social activist. She is professor at the University of San Diego, where she teaches Buddhism and World Religions.  She is co-founder of the Sakyaehita International Association of Buddhist Women and the founding director of the Jamyang Foundation, which supports the education of women and girls in the Himalayan region and the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.  She took novice precepts as Buddhist nun in France in 1977 and full ordination in Korea in 1982. Karma has written and edited extensively books and articles.  Among some of the books she has written and published are “Women In Buddhist Traditions,” “Into The Jaws of Yama, Lord of Death: Buddhism, Bioethics, and Death,” “Innovative Buddhist Women: Swimming Against the Stream,” Sisters in Solitude: Two Traditions of Buddhist Monastic Ethics for Women,” and more. 

ABOUT KARMA’S TALK: The title of her talk is “All Stressed Out and Ready to Save the World.”  This is what Karma had to say about her talk,” Due to the pandemic, many people are feeling stressed.  For some, the stress is just not personal but a deep frustration at not being able to help others.  The World’s a mess and we’re safe at home unable to help relieve the suffering of the world. Is there any way to resolve this tension?  In this talk, we’ll explore methods for relieving anxiety that will benefit both ourselves and others.”

Karma will also give us an update on her effort to develop the La’i peace center in Wailua. The focus of the center includes Peace Education, Buddhist Studies, Conflict Resolution, Community Services Programs, etc..   

MEDITATION SESSIONS: Karma will lead the gathering in two sessions. In the opening meditation session, we’ll practice mindfulness of breathing. And, in the closing session Karma will introduce Tonglen (taking and sending).
