ALOHA ALL!!
OUR NEXT MINDFUL HAWAII COMMUNITY MEETING WILL BE AT 1 PM SATURDAY 21 SEPTEMBER 2019 AT KAITO GAKKO, 3225 PAKANU ST, NEXT TO THE MANOA CHINESE CEMETERY. THE PRESENTER FOR THAT DAY WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT A LATER DATE. (Mahalo for your understanding)
A BIG MAHALO TO ALAN GAMBLE, LCSW, AND PRESIDENT OF MITS AOKI LEGACY FOUNDATION, FOR AN INFORMATIVE AND AWAKENING EXPERIENCE. Alan’s expert presentation of Mits Aoki’s work profoundly touched all that were in attendance. Alan walked us through several of Dr. Aoki’s exercises which helped us to become personally aware of our own eventual mortality and how that awareness can bring a measure of freedom into our present lives and added capacity to enjoy the gift of each present moment. We indeed got more than a glimpse of LIVING OUR DYING.
Enclosed in this letter is a copy of Dr. Mits Aoki’s presentation to care givers on Kauai, August 8, 1992. The title the presentation is “Death As A Healing Process,” and in it you discover the five points that gives guidance to our thinking of death. These five points not only provide guidance to facing our own mortality but also, very importantly, how we could live life better.
You may also find excellent videos on the subject as presented by Dr. Aoki at the Mits Aoki Legacy Foundation web site. Your visit there will be richly rewarded.
We were also treated to shakuhachi (bamboo flute) flavorings by KATSUMI TAKEMOTO. The soothing sounds, by Katsumi, accompanying the reading of “White Ashes I” gave the reading of the well known Buddhist epistle a moving moment.
NOTE: Lila Edwards, a Mindful Hawaii Community member, will be speaking on a panel at the Dharmachakra Festival, Saturday 14 September 2019, 3:30 to 8:00 pm.
Please mark your busy calendars for our next Mindful Hawaii Community meeting at 1 pm 21 September 2019. Would love to see you there.
Mahalo,
Jimmy
