A Child’s Mind

One week to go before the big day. It seems so easy to say that they will remove a section of my colon, stitch things together, and I’ll be good to go. This is a major surgery where I am totally out. Nalani and I are expecting it to go smoothly and I’ll be back in the hotel after four days. I’ve been faithfully walking or biking most days. So I hope to be up and about pretty quick.

My daughter, Seren, flew in Saturday from Cincinnati with Isabelle, my two year grand daughter for two nights. It was wonderful to be in the presence of a child’s mind. She found the simplest things to laugh about which in turn made me laugh as well. We played and played and played. It was nice to be reminded that I too can have a child’s mind anytime. I can look at things or do things freshly. And laugh about all of it. Today when I speak or I hear Nalani speak I’m hearing the words as a child, free without judgment and with a lot of joy. Thank you Isabelle for the gift of your boundless joy.

I discovered I have a gentle touch that soothes me when my left shoulder is having very painful spasms, which happens often these days. The pain is intense and changing position doesn’t usually help. I found that if I place my good right hand gently on my shoulder and repeat phrases like “easy does it” or just “easy”, that after a few seconds the pain subsides entirely. I thought the first time was a fluke but it has worked every time. We always hear about how our bodies have the ability to heal themselves. This isn’t quite a healing but it does help in the moment. More evidence for me and you that all sensation is temporary. Everything passes. The only thing permanent is the Source inside and around us.

Peace, love and joy always
